Something strange is afoot with the latest installment in Beck’s Record Club. This cover of the Loved Ones’ “The Loved One,” which is also a cover of a cover of the song from the INXS album Kick, appeared on the singer’s Vimeo account and was promptly withdrawn. This version of the song survives in the YouTube clip above.
Unlike the other collaborations in this series, the presence of Os Mutantes, Liars and St. Vincent isn’t felt—this looks like a solo workout from Beck, although with scant details available, and that mysterious withdrawal of the song, anything is possible. Perhaps Angus Andrew went out for a cigarette break and missed the recording of an entire track?
