Beck’s promised Record Club deal, in which he gets together with some musical friends to cover a classic album in the space of just one day, has already produced its first song. This cover of the Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morning” is accompanied by some scratchy footage of the recording sessions. The rest of the Velvet Underground and Nico album will presumably follow shortly.

According to Beck’s notes, they came close to covering Digital Underground’s Sex Packets, which would have been a more inspired choice. This cover is pretty but largely uninspired—it’s a straightforward replication of the original. If you listen closely, you might even hear Beck’s fellow Scientologist, actor Giovanni Ribisi, in the mix.
