If you weren't there as the clerk unlocked the door last Saturday morning for Record Store Day, chances are you missed out on Matador's Sonic Youth/Beck 7-inch, where these indie rock stalwarts covered one of each other's songs. Bummer, right? It certainly was for me. But it is a small consolation to get a streaming listen to Beck's side of the single. For the most part, it's a pretty basic, acoustic rendition of "Green Light.". However, Beck pushes the songs a little, tapping into his younger, One Foot in the Grave days on the tilted shrill rundown of notes in the middle, and no doubt leaving a smile on Thurston Moore's face in the process.
If you're wondering what Sonic Youth did with "Pay No Mind (Snoozer)," you can find it streaming on Hype Machine. But fair warning, it pretty much falls into that NYC Ghosts & Flowers realm where you have a friend who says they love it, but you just don't believe them. [Stereogum]

I don't think they had this one at my Record Store (Electric Fetus in St. Cloud). But they did have the Grizzly Bear Live on KCRW 7-inch, which totally rules.
