Beach House singer/organist Victoria Legrand's face is as beguiling as her voice in this, the third video from the Baltimore duo's excellent Devotion.  Where Skizz Cyzyk's "You Came to Me" clip went for public-access pizzaz, Jon Leone's "Gila" is made of strobe-lit, superimposed images that suggest all kinds of occult intrigue without approaching anything resembling a plot.  While Legrand’s acting has an unaccustomed intensity to it here, what surprises are the odd half-smiles that punctuate her delivery: they’re as ambiguous and slightly uneasy as the inchoate, dreamlike scenes flickering beneath.  Like the band’s music itself, this video transforms transparently cheap and disposable things into a deep narcotic flow.
