So Battles’ Gloss Drop is an uneven second album, but here comes some proof that the band is still one of the greatest live draws in the country. The trio appeared on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (June 16) to perform “Futura” from that record, which might be one of the strangest late-night TV appearances all year. When was the last time you saw an instrumental track delivered on one of these shows? Never? Well, Fallon’s show is known for taking musical risks and they got one here, albeit in the eminently danceable form of a cut from Gloss Drop that really benefits from being taken out in the open in this way.
