Autolux: "Supertoys"
Transit Transit, the new album from Autolux, is the trio's first output since 2004's excellent Future Perfect. You'd be hard pressed to tell while listening to "Supertoys" though, as it sounds like the band hasn't missed a beat in the interim. Everything that made their debut great is still intact: the fuzzy guitars, the heavy drums, the warm production style, and Eugene Goreshter's otherworldly croon. Actually, the only thing that really sounds different is that drummer Carla Azar sounds a lot more assured in her vocal performance, which in turn makes Autolux sound like that much more powerful of a band. The track never really explodes into louder territory, but its restraint highlights the sinister melodies at work.
Transit Transit is due out on Aug. 3. Take a listen to "Supertoys" and previously released track "Audience No. 2" over at Stereogum.
