On "Ida Walked Away," the only new song featured on their post-Verbs EP Versions, Au tempers their tribal influences (read: Animal Collective), opting instead for a more atmospheric sound. The drums are reduced to a clatter of sticks in the background, while Luke Wyland's vocals take up most of the sonic space. They still haven't outgrown all of their influences (read: Grizzly Bear), but this track is a noticeable step forward for Au.
Versions, which consists of reworked tracks from Verbs and Au, will be released digitally and in a limited vinyl run of 500 on October 8 via Aagoo.
