Atlas Sound: "Doctor/The Screens" (Download) (Audio)

Brooklyn doo-wop band the Five Discs are a little-known outfit who formed in the early 1950s and continue to perform to this day. They’ve caught the attention of Atlas Sound/Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox, who has released a cover of their “Doctor” in the eighth installment in his Virtual 7” series.

The song has a raw, scruffy, demo-y feeling, which is perfectly appropriate to the rambunctious nature of the track. It’s backed by “The Screens,” which features some wheezing harmonica from Cox, who often used the instrument during his recent bout of shows on the Atlas Sound/Broadcast tour.
