John Vanderslice makes austere, occasionally emotionally-dissolute folk songs. Bradford Cox’s Atlas Sound project revels in the gauzy sunshine of youth. Not the most obvious pairing, but in this cover of Logos highlight “Walkabout,” Vanderslice breathes a crisp new life into a murky composition. His mid-tempo cadence is joined word for word with Magik*Magik Orchestra artistic director Minna Choi’s fragile hover, and unlike the original you can actually understand the lyrics.
