Los Angeles punks FIDLAR sure love to give shout-outs to the things and places they love. In the past, the band has paid homage to Southern California fast food chain Del Taco (“Max Can’t Surf”), low-cost “adult beverages” (“Cheap Beer”) and rampant underage partying (every other FIDLAR song not mentioned here).
The band’s newest song, posted by its members on Tumblr earlier today, sticks to the same tried and true FIDLAR method of immortalizing great things in song form. This time around, it’s Los Angeles’ Cha Cha Lounge — a dive bar in the city’s Silver Lake neighborhood often frequented by residents associated with the Eastside music scene. The Cha Cha is by no means a classy establishment, and FIDLAR captures the bar’s true essence by weaving a tale wrought with fake IDs, overindulgence and fleeting romance.
Don’t let the song’s catchy chorus fool you into thinking an evening at the Cha Cha produces equally cheerful results. (As someone who has spent one too many late nights at the bar, you’ve got to trust me on this one.) In true FIDLAR fashion, there’s hints of self-denigration beneath those pop punk hooks; keep in mind the band’s youthful enthusiasm should always be taken with several grains of salt.
No word on whether or not the Cha Cha Lounge has decided to adopt the tune as its official theme song. [CoS]
