Asobi Seksu "Perfectly Crystal" from Billy Pavone on Vimeo.
Asobi Seksu has lifted a track from Fluorescence and given it the video treatment, choosing the jaunty “Perfectly Crystal” to help promote that record. This is the sound of the band edging close to the pop world while keeping all its shoegazer-y inclinations intact. There are moments reminiscent of Curve, Lush and School of Seven Bells at work here, and a giant wash of tremeloed My Bloody Valentine guitar when the chorus hits. The video even bears a similarity to clips from the genre Asobi Seksu is so obviously in debt to, with lots of bright colors mixed up with shots of the band members looking wistful. Still, it looks like there’s still a little mileage left in the revival of this sound.
