We’ve still got a while until Arctic Monkeys’ new record Suck It and See drops (on June 6, to be precise). But the group offered a glimpse of three tracks from that album on Later with Jools Holland in the U.K. on Friday (May 13). Here, we get a version of the first single from the record, “Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair,” plus reworkings of “Reckless Serenade” and the strangely titled (even by their standards) “The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala.” There’s definitely a maturity to the band’s work these days—even the latter song, which you might think would be some spiky, punk-oriented material in the vein of Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not—is a distinctly low-key rock track that veers close to AOR territory at times.
