Just over a week ago, The Arcade Fire revealed that they would be putting out a new single sometime this summer. Well, after mysteriously surfacing in a Glasgow record store, the single and its B-side have made their way to the internet. A lot of the band's more epic tendencies have been toned down, while the pop songcraft has been turned way up. "The Suburbs" lopes along casually, with a chorus carried by Win Butler's falsetto. "Month Of May" is possibly the most punk-sounding song the band has ever composed, and in my opinion, sounds like a less-fuzzy/more-Springsteeny version of TV On The Radio's "Wolf Like Me," which is never a bad thing.
Both tracks can be heard below, in radio rip quality. Just in case YouTube gives these the ax, they can also be heard over at One Thirty BPM:
"The Suburbs"
"Month Of May"
