It’s been a hell of a week for Arcade Fire, and they capped it off with an appearance on the Daily Show last night (Aug. 12). “I’m here with the kid in high school who protected me from bullies,” says John Stewart, as Win Butler towers over him just prior to performing a version of “Month of May” from The Suburbs.
The Daily Show doesn’t often have musical guests, and Stewart’s brief interview with Butler comes off somewhat awkwardly, but it doesn’t matter because “Ready to Start” and “Month of May” more than make up for it. Both tracks work up that impenetrable wall of sound that the band has so forcefully constructed over the years, making it clear that this is going to be one of the live shows to check out in the next year.
