Annuals were 2006’s unlikely blog-hypes (for those of you with internet-shortened attention spans, they were 2006’s Black Kids), and they promptly disappeared for a time after their middling debut Be He Me was released. While living outside of blog-life, the band got signed to Columbia subsidiary Canvasback, and cut a sophomore album, Such Fun, which is out in two weeks.
The album’s first single is “Confessor,” which sounds a lot like alt-rock hits from the late ‘90s and early aughts (kind of like a non-British Verve). The video for the song is a random assemblage of fairy tale images that were reportedly written by Annuals guitarist Zach Oden. What that has to do with the song is anyone’s guess, but maybe the confessor is confessing to his love of pantaloons.
Such Fun is due out on October 7 via Canvasback. [Stereogum]
