Anna Calvi has been covering TV on the Radio’s “Wolf Like Me” during her live sets in 2011, and she’s taken the next natural step and recorded her own version of the song. This bears few hallmarks of the original track—instead Calvi creates her own sense of doomed romanticism, reminiscent of the trend for ‘50s influences that has prevailed this year (Dirty Beaches, Lana Del Rey, etc.). This is one of those rare cover versions where an artist actually tried to do something different from the original, which is capped off by the wonderfully scruffy guitar break two-thirds of the way through that gives Calvi’s interpretation its heft. Check it out over at Stereogum.
