There's been some speculation that Merriweather Post Pavilion could be Animal Collective's crossover album, making them the Radiohead of independent music. Uh, I'm not sure if these people have heard MWPP, but just because Animal Collective's not ending songs with "Meow, kitties" anymore, doesn't mean that they're ready for your local "alternative" FM radio station. As if the band themselves wanted to nip that kind of talk in the bud, they've released a video for album standout "My Girls," which looks like the trippiest iPod commercial that Apple never made. The clip, animated by Jon Vermilyea with visual effects by Chad Von Nau, features the band in silhouette with creepy red mouths, playing their instruments. Towards the end, the video goes into warp speed and the band gets all turquoise and drippy, which hopefully is a part of their new live act.
remember how it used to look like a slightly better iPod commercial?
Saw them play last night at the Bowery Ballroom. A much younger crowd than their older shows, which is definitely a good thing. There was a jubilant, celebratory feel in the air. Although, having said that, I did see a LOT of people getting pulled aside at the door - apparently there was some kind of Craigslist ticket scam going on and I think some people got badly burned by it.
