Animal Collective: "In the Flowers" (Video)

In typically contrary fashion, Animal Collective have made a video for Merriweather Post Pavilion’s opening track, “In the Flowers,” despite the fact that it doesn’t appear on the new Fall Be Kind EP or the “Brother Sport” single. The video was directed by Dave Portner’s sister, Abigail, and is currently streaming at the official Animal Collective website.

Anyone familiar with Abigail’s work, either through her various (and impressive) bands and solo projects like Rings and Drawlings, or via her artwork and stage decoration for her brother’s band, will be familiar with the aesthetic here. There’s a childlike, nostalgic feel that suits the song, which is mixed in with animation and scratchy film clips and dancers.
