Has there ever been a more appropriate cover than Amy Winehouse’s version of Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party”? The errant singer has finally got back to doing what she does best and has recorded this version of the song for a compilation album titled Q: Soul Train Bossa Nostra, which has been curated by Quincy Jones.
Mark Ronson produced the track, and said he and Winehouse were “incredibly honored and excited” to work with Jones, who was the original producer of Gore’s version. Judging from this recording, the years of drug abuse haven’t blighted Winehoue’s vocal talents, so maybe that long awaited follow-up to Back to Black will be worth the wait after all?
