For me, 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend was a startling, almost unsettling revelation, and ultimately confirmed something irrefutable: I need to start following basketball again. (Who are DeMar DeRozan and Danilo Galinari?) The East won the game 141-139, thanks in large part to Dwayne Wade’s bolstering 28-point, 11-assist performance and some characteristically superhuman athleticism from LeBron and Dwight Howard, but the real treat for pop music fans was the halftime show. Shakira performed a pair of infectious dance hits and Alicia Keys sang behind a piano because that’s what Alicia Keys does. Ernie Johnson, who’s Inside the NBA is the best show in TV sports journalism, described the performances as “electrifying.” [Neon Limelight]
