While the band comes from New Jersey, this slice of slow-burning rock comes almost obviously courtesy of Neil Young. Bleeker's voice is heavily indebted to the Canadian on this track, which comes as the first single from their self-titled debut album. "Animal Tracks" is a cover of Vermont group Mountain Man, but the Freaks take that haunting pastoral and inject it with a dirty buzz and vicious guitar solo to create something entirely their own. I love Mountain Man's original, but this is a nice take on that.
This makes me very excited for the LP. Alex Bleeker & The Freaks is basically a musical chairs version of Real Estate. Saw them live over the summer and they had a nice, mellow classic rock vibe that I really dug.
