In February, Alela Diane quietly released one of the best records so far this year with To Be Still. And this video of her playing "Lady Divine" puts all of the album's strengths (that deep, emotive voice and those gentle guitar notes woven into a thick country haze) on display. The faint orange light pouring in behind the players works well with the wistful heartache of Diane's song, and all the space in that big room lets her voice stretch out fill it up beautifully. And to think, this isn't even the best song on the album.
To Be Still is out now on Rough Trade.
