There’s a new Alejandro Escovedo album out titled Street Songs of Love, which features more of his well established mixture of carefully sculpted songs and fuzzed up punk guitars. But its in the live arena that Escovedo really excels, as he demonstrated with this version of “Anchor” on David Letterman’s show last night (July 21).
This is the kind of balls-out confessional that Escovedo executes so well, with his band the Sensitive Boys laying down a sturdy backing for him to spit out lyrics with a rarely seen passion. Like the previous Real Animal, Escovedo’s Street Songs of Love features many songs co-written with ex-Green on Red mainman Chuck Prophet, and should propel him to a much deserved wider audience.
