This new Akon video for “Right Now (Na, Na, Na)” features tropes that will be instantly recognizable to anyone who has seen a music video in their entire life: Akon loves a chick, they broke up when he got rich, and now he wants her back. The video features gratuitous love scenes, hazy club shots, and a lot of mugging for the camera. The song is assembly line Akon: a reedy, shouty chorus, a glimmering beat, and questionable spelling and diction (“Na” actually means “now” in Akon’s world, thus making the “na”’s in the title redundant).
The song is featured on Akon’s Freedom, which is due out on December 2 via Konvict Music.
