Rock 'N' Roll Train (Audio)

Average Rating: 6.88

The first single from AC/DC’s upcoming, Wal-Mart exclusive album, Black Ice, is playing at the band’s website. The song is a somber ode to rock driven by acoustic guitars and mandolin… got you going there for a second didn’t I? “Rock ‘N’ Roll Train” is all sloppy power chords, vocals that sound like the singer is taking a huge dump, and ridiculous guitar solos. Basically, it’s vintage AC/DC.

Black Ice is due out October 20 via Columbia.

The song "Rock n Roll Train", has a riff and arrangement that are good, but they are not great. Don't get me wrong, it's far better than the vast majority of rock songs in today's market. The worst AC/DC song is always better than most crap that's out there. But these guys are capable of way better.

Reports were that Angus and Mal were going to attempt another "classic album" like "Let There Be Rock" or "Back and Black". This first song is not in that catagory. The chorus has no catchy hook like "You shook me", nor does the arrangement build and then explode like in "Thunderstruck".

Although "Rock n' Roll Train" is a very good song, it sounds like something from the Bon era or even something from the "Stiff Upper Lip" album - a formula which has not proved extremely successful for the band in the last 20 years. It has been the songs which contain multiple overlapping complexities such as "We Salute You" and "Thunderstruck" that have been so successful and popular - somthing that "Rock N' Roll Train" is lacking.

acdcexpert, I understand as a fan, it's easy to fall into analyzing the "new stuff" because we want it to sound great and kick everybody else in the ass, but it's AC/DC, it's going to rock no matter what. They might be older and not rocking like You shook me...or Rosie or Kicked In the Teeth, but they're still rocking. Just go with it m friend. It's going to rock and you know it's going to rock so......
Let's rock!

As always, AC/DC releases a song that is not the best song on the albumn, that to me is good news. . if this song is not the best song I can't wait to hear the rest!!! By the way I think Rock N' Roll Train ROCKS!, but I think the albulm wil contain better tracks.

My two cents:
This isn't just because it's been eight long years since the last AC/DC effort, but I've been a fan for 25 years and, truthfully, I think the new single is better than anything since 'Flick of the Switch.' It's brought back the big sound and big back-up vocals that I feel were missing from albums like 'Razor's Edge' and 'Stiff Upper Lip,' and the producers helped preserve the punch of the riffs, drums and bass instead of overproducing the sound. It also sounds like Brian is using his lower register more, and it works -- his voice hasn't sounded this good in years.

I can't wait to hear the rest of the new CD and catch them on tour.

As Angus said many years ago about a new album, “It’s the same album with a different cover”, this “new” song is just a “we still alive, and we still kicking” song. Anyone, anywhere that start listening to RNR Train will think, “wait a minute, is this AC/DC?, yes it is! I don’t know this one… a new one? where can I buy it?”. Now all we need to do is waiting for the next single, and I’m stunned because this guys will be at Lisbon sometime next year, 1996’s show still rocks in my head. So they did not put keyboards in the song, they did not invite Shakira to do a duet with Brian, so what! It’s AC/DC, it’s 2008 and they still here, and the show in 2009 it’s gonna be Overdose! For this song I give a 5/10, for what they are I give a 20/10. Just break all the rules and rock!

This song is low quality for AC/DC. Don't get me wrong, I love AC/DC...I LOVE THEM! But...this tune is lacking. First of all Angus doesn't even melt your face with solos anymore. On this song (like a lot of tunes on Stiff Upper Lip) it seems like he just doesn't wail anymore. Its not necessary for every song, but I can't help but feel disappointed with the lacking guitar solo. Also...I thought Phill Rudd's name was "Fill." Now...we all know that Mr. Rudd is a simple drummer that keeps a great beat and groove (and he's also my favorite of the 3 drummers that played with AC/DC), but he used to put in some groovy fills now and again. Listen to Riff Raff or For Those About To Rock...I mean come on its just one beat throughout the whole song with a crash cymbal here and there. Put some more energy into it Phill! Also...I swear I've heard this guitar riff on Stiff Upper Lip...TWICE!

Like I said...I love AC/DC. They've been a favorite of mine since I was 10. I'm 30 now. But...I was a bit disappointed in this song. They rock and they rock hard and do it well. But this song is like watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Crap. Way too long of a wait for a low grade single. I'm really looking forward to the album, though. And I WILL see them in concert this time around...

I love AC/DC!! I have been a fan of theirs ever since my cousin turned them on to me when I was 14. I am 42 now, and they finally came out with their new CD! I have been patiently waiting ever since I caught wind that they were making a new one. I listened to the first song, Rock N Roll Train, and I love the song. It isn't boring to me at all. This song rocks!! I think Angus looks just kooky being as old as he is and still wearing the schoolboy uniform, and Brian? well, Brian Johnson is definitely the man with the vocals. No one, no one can match this guy!! So for all of you that are putting this great rock and roll group down, yall just don't know good decent rock and roll. Maybe Britney Spears sounds better to y'all!! Stick with her if you want to put down this great and wonderful band. I am sure she will appreciate it.!! LOL

seems like the majority of us are lukewarm to this "new" release..........it's ok ...still head over heels better than the poop we're popunded with nowadays......
was hoping for more of a "heat seeker" kind of tune
definatly will purchase, hoping rest of cd bulks up a little

Could b better.
Keeps the beat but a bit iffy in the middle to bridge.AC DC are good for the time they have been going but too many overlaps with a lot of their other stuff they have done in the past. Maybe it is just as good as it needs to be if you are into AC DC and they will never get their stuff from a dif angle,it will stick to their formula which

Angus' voice is classic grit, grime and rock. Any song he does will be fire. I'd even venture to say a ballad? lol. AC is dope.
