This cover of A-ha's "Take On Me" for a Starbucks-only comp has been rumored since November, and now it has finally hit the web. Given that the song is an iconic part of the 1980s canon, Newman does a respectable job with the cover--he doesn't try to replicate the synthy rush of the original, and instead replaces it with regal acoustic guitar figures and airy strings.
Newman's "Take On Me" is, along with other covers, on Starbucks' Sweetheart: Our Favorite Artists Sing Our Favorite Love Songs comp, which is out now at Starbucks. [Stereogum]
hmmm... nehh... it doesn't sound bad, but there's nothing special about it.
I agree. Just OK.
I agree. It's just ok.
I agree. It's... oh, bollocks... never mind.
