100 Yard Dash (video)

    You’ve got to give it up to Raphael Saadiq — the man doesn’t do anything in half-measures. So when it came time to dream up a video for the extremely Motown-esque tune "100 Yard Dash," from Saadiq’s most recent album, The Way I See It, the former Tony! Toni! Tone! man (he was the one in the middle) came up with an appropriately period-perfect look, in which he plays his circa-1965 David Ruffin role to the hilt, with the requisite amount of swivel-hipped choreography going on behind him. And of course it’s all in black and white, for just the right LBJ-era flavor. Of course, there’s more of a postmodern touch to the whole thing than you would have ever seen in the days of the Tempts et al, but hell, you’ve got to give the folks some kind of clue that this is 2009…
