Lana Del Rey Tops U.K. Album Charts, U.S. Next?

After the hype, controversy, the lips, the major label backing from the beginning, the name change, the lips, the oblique videos, the thinkpieces and the lips, Lana Del Rey’s Born to Die has become the number one album in the U.K. Born to Die moved 117,000 copies in its first week in the U.K., which is considerably more than the projected 60,000 she’s expected to sell in the U.S. when the Billboard charts for this week are announced.

Will Del Rey top the U.S. chart? That remains to be seen, but it seems likely she’ll debut at number two, behind Adele’s 21. So apparently internet controversy can’t sink a major label signee anymore. Good to know. [Billboard
