iPod shortage possible this Christmas, but Obama rocks a Zune

Those commercials for the "funnest iPod ever" could be paying off in a big way. Analyst Shaw Wu of Kaufman Brothers has found that many retail outlets, including juggernauts Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target are experiencing a shortage of Apple media players. Though initial predictions, which took into account the tough economic times and the fact that lots of people are pretty happy with their current iPod, predicted sales at between eighteen and nineteen million units, actual sales might be closer to twenty-one million. This would seem to  be the perfect ingredient for a merry Apple this Christmas,  but recent reports have linked Barack Obama to the Zune. Super sales or not, to have the first media player be anything but an iPod would be a huge lump of coal in Steve Jobs’ stocking. [CNET]
