This week, the New York Times profiled twins from Ohio who graduated from Rutgers with journalism degrees. They're 24, and can't get jobs in New York. How do you think this went? It went like this: they quoted Deadspin.

Opening the questionably titled "Jobs Wanted, Any Jobs At All," we learn that Kristy and Katie Barry are from Ohio, have applied for 100 jobs, and haven't had an interview in a year. They're "not wishing on milkwood seeds." They have $39K in student loans to repay. Are they doing everything wrong?

Besides sending Buckeyes out to prospective employers, emailing, Craiglisting, attempting to network in a softball league, an improv class, Facebook, and hanging out with people who are both sleeping in a museum as part of an exhibition (!!!) and...

nah, I don't think so. I sometimes go there because my sister lives in the area. It's really not a dive bar at all. Maybe I should go now and talk some sense to them. Or try and hook up.

Following up with that story....

Amanda Ernst, the new editor of Mediabistro's Fishbowl NY, was on the Today Show this morning! Topic: How to deal with her crushing poverty as she tries to survive on a paltry Mediabistro wage. Amanda was laid off from a magazine job, and now has to scrape by as a wage slave blogger in

1600 a month? In what universe is that a terrible wage to live on for one person? I understand that might not be much in NYC, but for 1600 a month here, I could live like the Sultan of Brunei (seriously, I could make it rain up in this bitch). I mean, I get if she had kids that would be horrible, but she's like 25 and single. What the fuck is she crying about?

Yeah but rent is probably cheaper in Hoboken. Or get a roomate.

I get that it's way less than what she made before, but seriously, she's lucky to have a job that pays her as much as she's getting now.

Hoboken is actually probably more expensive. I'm around the same wage, but I make ends (barely) meet by not living in fancy neighborhoods and not drinking. Except for that Bottle of E&J we downed last night while watching Belly.

For 1600 a month, I could drink all day, every day here, no problemo. Pints are like 2 bones.

I guess it's the rent that's terrible. With a roomie, I pay only 450 a month here (and when I lived in Minnesota, it was 300). That would leave me with like 1100 of funnie munnie.
