You'd think apartments would go up as people lose their jobs and demand increases... but then again Im no crazy economist.

I would think people lose their jobs and their Apts, so there should be more available, right?

This might not apply to New York at all, but my friends in St. Louis have been getting really great deals on amazing apartment because there were a lot of luxury apartments being built in different areas. The expectation was that people would have tons of money to spend on them and then the economy bottomed out, and the developers are basically left with unfillable super-expensive buildings. What it's come down to in some cases is that they're renting out the properties at low prices so that they can at least make some money while the economy is shite and just ride it out until people are ready to purchase homes again.

Listed prices aren't going down (I just looked). However, word on the street is that rent is now negotiable – a friend just looked at a place, told the dude it was too pricey, and got a call back two days later with $200 knocked off. Also, joydivided, daba is taken.

Basically, New York,—and Manhattan especially, is the last frontier of absorbitant real estate prices. If those drop substantially, the world has a lot bigger problems than what a few people hunting for studios need. |

My girlfriend and I are looking to move to Hoboken and Jersey City when she gets a job (anyone know of anything in marketing, copywriting, etc. haha) and then I move on from my job. Hope the prices/places are decent. What other areas would be worth checking out down there? (up in Orange County so i dont know)

I always wish about moving to NYC, but then I remember I pay 300 bones a month for a 1,000 sq ft. apt.

$300 for 1,000 square feet? Damn.
Bryan, I think people that look at Hoboken and Jersey City often also take a look at Astoria but not sure if you want to stick to NJ. |

Yeah maybe Astoria but I think I would like to be on this side of the river for some reason. I heard Riverdale in Bronx is okay. Guess it depends on where we find jobs and how nice places can be. Would be nice to be down the road from Maxwells haha.
