Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs broke with his usual code of secrecy Monday to explain his health problems, but the disclosure that a hormone imbalance was causing his noticeable weight loss will probably do little to tamp down concerns.

 

Medical experts said a hormone imbalance in a pancreatic cancer survivor raises red flags about a possible recurrence. Jobs said in 2004 that he had undergone surgery to treat a rare form of the deadly disease.

Reached by a Bloomberg reporter asking about his latest health scare, Apple CEO Steve Jobs finally snapped. "Why don't you guys leave me alone — why is this important?" It's an intriguing question.

Here's a theory: He's become a father figure to us. Coldly withholding and distant most of the time, he shows up once a year — Macworld is Christmas for Apple geeks — to shower us with gifts. But we always believed he'd be there, and that if something serious happened, he'd tell us.

I hope he's alright. Whether you like Apple or not, the things this guy has done have changed the world probably more than anyone else currently living. 

It would be sad to lose him.
