Interesting. Would be cool to have the whole back catalog viewable online.

The news was broken, oddly, via ESPN.com's Bill Simmons, on a podcast with SNL head writer Seth Meyers (download here, skip to 22 minute mark) last week. B&C moves the story along today, noting that there are still some big question marks hanging over the site, like the extent to which it will dip into the archives, and how they plan to make money off of it. There's also come concern that the project won't launch in time to take advantage of the pre-election buzz. Nonetheless, SNL has a lot to gain by really opening up the vault.

isn't suprised that TVOTR is leading the Prefix polls, but still a little dissapointed.

They should have made this move two years ago. SNL is the perfect format for online/viral video, and as of now the chance of finding clips of obscure skits from 1992 is next to impossible (I've been looking for "What's the Best Way?," which I saw about 10 years ago, for years).

How they plan to make money off it?  I think Rex has it figured out.  I mean, he's been working out of Lorne Michaels office while Lorne is in Europe.  The interesting thing is that the new site, SNL, and 30 Rock are actually under the "Lorne Michaels channel."  They're all his.  He then licenses them out to NBC. In fact, this site isn't technically part of NBC  yet. They are meeting with NBC lawyers right now doing that...Rex and Seth that is.

I think this election is saving that show.

Did you see it tonight?  Other than when Darrell Hammond was on screen, it was weak. Kristen Wiig was pretty funny for the 1 minute they gave her.  I didn't really get the whole "imaginary" take...

McCain's own material from that NYC dinner tonight kicked SNL 's materials' ass. It was pretty dang good. Hillary was rolling in the ailes.  Obama really isn't that funny. McCain should be like this more of the time. He also praised Obama renlentlessly and quite elegantly...now that he's not on national TV.
