I dislike the Red Sox and most Boston sports, but I do think Simmons is a great sports writer.

I hate Boston too much to like an unremitting whiny Masshole homer like Simmons. But I do admit he can make a good point occaisionally when he's not bragging about all the athletes he gets to hang out with or whining about officiating that's CLEARLY biased against Boston.

He's Bias FOR Boston.  But he's a great writer, whether the Boston fans are annoying or not(East coast fans are more annoying in gerneral).  I would put his diary column after the Celtics won it all last year as one of my top 5 all time favorite sports pieces. Then again, I grew up a huge Celtics fan.
