Sweet. Updating my phone now. Will find out soon if it helps calls from being dropped and battery life, etc. The iPhone 2.1 software update contains many bug fixes and improvements. To get it, connect your iPhone to your computer using iTunes 8 and click Check for Update. Update includes: - Decrease in call set-up failures and dropped calls
- Significantly better battery life for most users
- Dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
- Improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
- Faster installation of 3rd party applications
- Fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes for users with lots of third party applications
- Improved performance in text messaging
- Faster loading and searching of contacts
- Improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
- Repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
- Option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
- Genius playlist creation

I hope it helps the dropped calls and battery too. Both are pretty much shit right now.

That update took a looong time. So now my battery isn't gonna die in 1/2 a day?

It's definitely fixed a lot of things with my phone so far. Has the 2.1 Update Fixed Your iPhone? I've been busy, so I haven't had a chance to install it myself—so help me out with this. How are the individual bug fixes working out for you? Any Dropped Calls?

mine is working way better now. basically the only gripe I had about the phone was that every once in a while, the e-mail would lock into a "connecting..." cycle, and I would have to turn the phone off and on in order for it to start receiving e-mails. Seems like that is fixed here too. So I'm set. Jesusphone = amazing.

It's definitely pretty awesome after the update. It functions as a phone well now and it's still got all the crazy apps. I've been playing Tap Tap on the subway but feel stupid playing it sometimes... Overall: Apple's really fixed the glaring reception, crashing and backup problems everyone's been seeing. Not only is everyone getting more bars than they were before, they're getting actual results. Brian's notoriously horrible AT&T reception at his apartment in SF is just bearably horrible now, kicking him down to EDGE from 3G where he can actually make phone calls that don't cut off after a few seconds. If you own an iPhone, you need to upgrade to 2.1—slower browsing be damned. Apple has finally put most of the iPhone 3G launch problems behind it, allowing the phone part of the device to be brought back up to par with the original 2G iPhone. [iPhone]
