What the hell was that last night? A B-level parody of the VMAs? it looked like an abomination of the perfect VMAs...of course there's never been one. The host was bad(but he's hilarious in Forgetting Sarah marshall), the performances were bad- Katy Perry's actual voice is poor. In fact, they didn't even show the performances for the most part. And like we all wanted to see Rhianna the zombie twice? Could they not get more solid acts? Not to mention the make-shift layout of everything. What's the story behind this? Did they have no $? I didn't think it could get worse than last year's VMAs but MTV proved me wrong. Jonah Hill was pretty funny in that opening skit though.

I actually found Brand funny. The part when he talked politics was kind of heavy-handed, but his jokes about A-Rod doing Madonna with a baseball bat, having sex with the Jonas Brothers, and pissing off Jordin Sparks were actually funny. He wasn't afraid to piss off the people in attendance, which is better than most hosts who are afraid of making fun of anyone there.

Yeah except most don't come back and apologize. I agree that he had some good material. I just thought his delivery was erratic and uncomfortable.

Russell Brand has made a career of being erratic and uncomfortable. I think he's hilarious (try his BBC Radio podcast some time, it makes me snort out loud on the subway). That said I didn't manage to catch last night, I was hanging with art farts in Long Island City wishing I was splashing in the East River. |

He didn't really apologize for real though. He sounded like he was forced to do that.

I honestly wasn't familiar with Brand until last night and I thought he was about as someone gets considering he's dealing with the VMAs.

Really? I couldn't see them forcing Sarah Silverman to apologize and she was much harsher than Brand. He's funny -It just seemed like he was out of his comfort zone, pretty much admitting this in the beginning when he said he's a "big deal" in the UK so don't worry. Tieing it to his hair was a smart move though. And he should have left his politcal bit as simply "Vote for Obama." And he looked like he was constipated most of the time. It didn't seem like the audience was feeling it.

I thought that they must have made him apologize also. It was just bizarre that he did apologize and it wasn't exactly 100% he took another jab at him right after.

Yeah but I'm not really sure you should take so many jabs at something worthy.
I mean Britney's a virgin and he didn't attack her. Wait, that's not right- |
