In an attempt at counter-programming John McCain's nomination acceptance speech, Barack Obama has agreed to appear tomorrow on The O'Reilly Factor, a popular programme on Rupert Murdoch's Fox News channel.

The Obama interview comes after months of behind-the-scenes peacemaking between the candidate and the Fox News chief Roger Ailes -- talks brokered by Murdoch himself. Widespread Democratic concern over the Murdoch channel's conservative slant had fuelled a de facto boycott of Fox News by the Obama camp.

Ailes told the Washington Post that Obama's concern during their face-to-face meeting was simple. "I just want to know if I'm going to get a fair shake from Fox News channel," he recalled the Democratic senator saying.

Obama didn't boycott FOXNews because of the conservative slant, he boycotted because FOXNews decided conservative blogs were sources with journalistic integrity and reported that Obama went to a madrassa. Which of course is a blatant lie.

And that was definitely the first time journalists have ever used sketchy sources as fact... Not an overreaction by either side at all :)

I'm not sure if you can 'overreact' to the nations biggest cable news network pretty much falsly implying that you are a terrorist.

No offense, but after some of the speeches given last night at the RNC last night, I don't think it's in any Republican's interest to bring "class" into the discussion.

Really though... with a name like Barack Obama, regardless of how unfair it is, did he REALLY expect to not have that accusation made at one point or another? I'm not endorsing the accusation at all. It's outright ridiculous. But it's part of the little games both parties play up until election day, and I don't think either candidate should be surprised by any false accusations at this point...

Yeah and the Democrats -politicians and common peeps- were real classy dealing with Palin's daughter's situation.  And Edwards is a real classy guy isn't he, using his wife so shamlessly throughout his campaign?  Not a Republican...just being fair.  I hate Oreily. But I do hope he asks B.O. why he had that ridiculous huge coming out party.  I was frightened when I saw a bunch of signs sporting Bama's face. Is this the American election?  But Obama's speech was powerful.

I'm not denying that any party is guilty, I just don't think that Obama deciding to not promote his campaign on a network that made a huge error in judgement (if not actively trying to ruin him) is an overreaction.
