Some slight controversy on whether he really won the 100M Butterfly.

There was a lot of history and maybe some controversy jammed into an infinitesimal fraction of time Saturday. Thirty-six years have come, gone and been forgotten since anybody won seven gold medals in a single Olympics. All of that changed within - don't blink - one one-hundredth of a second. That's 0.01, or not even enough for a tick on an ordinary clock .... But - and again, don't blink - beneath the splash that roiled and obscured the view, there is a touch pad, digital and apparently a technological wonder immune to malfunction. Then again, the laptop at home does break down, now and again. Anyway, the pad said that Phelps was first at 50.58. In second and without room in the H2O for a single hydrogen atom between them, there was Cavic at 50.59. .... http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/sports/articles/2008/08/16/20080816olyswim16.html

in real time i thought phelps won. from above it looks like he lost. but in the video under water, he looks to have gotten both hands on there first. but i love conspiracies theorists...who cares if he got 7 gold and one silver? i guess it's not a record but it wouldn't have decreased my appreciation for his talent had he gotten a silver.
