Another interesting post on the Guardian's music blog:

And ideally, in the most artistically and commercially beneficial order. But perhaps bands like the Fratellis shouldn't get too hung up on sequencing. Downloading means it may soon be a dying art - we can cherry pick the tracks we want and, with iPods, order them how we like. I couldn't get a comment from the Fratellis camp to justify their selection, so took the liberty of shuffling Here We Stand around, making it ten minutes shorter and kicking off with Babydoll. I'm not sure if it's a classic, but I much prefer it.

I think it's pretty important still. Most people don't have the patience to listen beyond the first song or two and if they don't like those they'll ditch an album

I think it is important to present the songs in fashion like a mix tape or something a dj would do to control the flow and and keep someone interested, if they do listen beyond the first few songs or if there is reason behind the order other than what was mentioned.(i.e. gang gang dance's god's money). but then again when it's in the hands of a comsumer who cares!

I think a record as a piece of work, is definitely defined to a certain extent by its sequencing -to the extent a given band wants it to be and to what end(commercialism).  Although the Fratellis could put their tracks in any order and the definition would be trivial.

Definitely important.

I check out so many new records a day that I don't listen to them the way I used to.

I give a unknown artist (to me) a 3 song trial on the record.

I'll dump it if I can't find a hook or something somewhat interesting about them.

Maybe it's a lost art and I'm just an old fart, but I consider it pretty important. The presentation is an extension of the artist's work.

Presentation is crucial, and so is proper pacing.

Also how long is this switched identity madness going to continue?

When will you two just admit that your in love and move forward with the next chapter already?
