I'm still surprised that Fallon got the nod. Very big shoes to fill and I think late night hosting is very tough. Wonder what would happen if he bombed? Would he get pulled? Doubt it. Fallon, who has been named as Conan O'Brien's replacement when O'Brien relieves Jay Leno on the Tonight Show in 2009, will begin broadcasting on the web this fall. Late Night producer and long-time Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels told New York Times reporters he hopes the unprecedented move will help Fallon "to work out as many of the rough spots in his presentation as possible in performances on a website." Slated to air this fall, webisodes are expected to run about five to 10 minutes long each, and his web show will likely air on a nightly basis to establish a regular rhythm for Fallon and viewers. http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/07/jimmy-fallon-to.html

I just read a thing in EW about how NBC is royally hosed now. They promised Conan the spot, and if they don't give it him, they have to buy out his contract, which is worth more than 40 million bucks. No one's real sure if Fallon will/won't suck (I'm betting heavily on will), and Leno might go to ABC and take on Conan and Letterman.

That would be wonky if Leno left only to join ABC.

I guess he's pretty pissed about being forced to retire.

Yeah, that and they really don't want to lose Conan. So Conan threw down the gauntlet, saying he'd split if he didn't get Leno's spot, and they chose Conan because he's younger.
