.... Belong Colorloss Record EP [St. Ives]
We've been up to our asses in directionless, snoozy shoegaze revivalism the past few years-- and that was before the return of My Bloody Valentine, which will either spark even more interest in such parroting, or remind the kids how it should be done (beauty + noise). Belong mostly go for the beauty, but that doesn't mean they aren't experts in the mastery of pure sound, as demonstrated on 2006's October Language and this covers EP. As Mark Richardson wrote of the group's Syd Barrett cover (see mp3 below), this EP is "a limited-edition vinyl record that contains four covers (more or less) done in Belong's richly textured, minutely detailed style. Some of the tracks are 'covers' only in a more distant sense, like, say, Fennesz's version of 'Paint It, Black', referring to and gazing upon the song in question more than playing it." Faithful or distant, beautiful or noisy, Belong have that blend of delicacy and backbone down.

Yeah pf is really only good for their news updates, they're pretty thorough with that. Their reviews are hogwash though. I wonder who is going to be next years overrated-pitchfork-darling-CYH,SY/Black Kids.
