Maybe I'm off here, but isn't a white DSLR a bad idea. Granted there are white iPods, but aren't your hands constantly holding a camera?

Mmmm: the Pentax K2000, a well-reviewed Nikon/Canon competitor, will now be available in a limited edition white.

No pricing info yet.....

I think I like it. I think if I got that camera I'd become very chic and minimalist and start affecting a vaguely Central European accent.

I prefer it in black, but I kind of like the storm trooper style. Speaking of that camera, Dave, that's an ideal first DSLR. For under $600 you get the body with the lens shown and a small external flash.

$800.

That slick-looking white limited edition Pentax K2000 DSLR we previewed and drooled all over in December got official pricing and availability info this weekend, and it was much less than we anticipated it would be.

For reference, the black version of this entry-level camera will set you back about $800. The limited edition, in cookies 'n' cream casing? Only $680, according to the Pentax store page that popped up on Friday.

Nah, you can get the black version with a lens and flash for less than $575 on Amazon and at Willoughby's.

I wish my camera were forest green. I think that'd be classy.

It's shipping now...

 ...

it's also still listed at $679.95 for the kit that includes both an 18-55mm and a 50-200mm lens, so it looks like that wasn't a special pre-order price, though that certainly doesn't make it any less of a bargain.
