shhh. i just snagged the Suburbs the other day. i'm trying not to form any solid conclusions yet, because it's such a longer album and deserves a couple of serious listens. but what the hell, premature evaluation: completely different mood than anything else they've released, no real "epic" buildups (it sort of stays at one pace all the way through), and i find that the beauty is in the small details of each song. i don't think i've deemed it great yet, but when i do, it'll be due to all the album's subtleties.

I was a little underwhelmed by the singles that had leaked, but now that I've heard the album in its entirety, I get a better understanding about the songs. It's really something that has to be consumed from beginning to end. Im loving the themes mostly, and I think there are still some pretty great buildups scattered throughout.
All in all it's just really good to hear new music from them.

i've always really enjoyed the themes that arcade fire's explored. they really know how to flesh out their overarching ideas and suburbs is definitely no different. the cohesion of it is impressive, which pretty much is in line with what you said about "consuming it from beginning to end." i've only listened to it all the way through maybe 3-5x, but i feel as though that's the only way i could listen to it, not so much as just singular tracks.
