No. I really would want to see him in 1994, but that's impossible. I really only like Illmatic from start to finish from him.

Well, you're not missing much anyway.

Although my inner-fanboy for Nas had a heart-attack the first time I saw him, he was a huge letdown. Dude runs out of breath all over the place and misses lyrics on his own shit.

it depends when you see Nas: I saw him at rock the bells a couple years ago and he sucked,, the track was overlaid above his vocals and it was basically like listening to the shit on my car stereo with him standing directly in front of me... But then I saw him play a solo show at a smaller venue last year, and it was incredible.. not only did he play everything I wanted to hear (even throwing in Street Dreams, Purple, Rewind and You're the Man; all of which were totally unexpected), but it was one of the more consistent rap shows I've seen in terms of his lyrics being on point... Maybe he just gets too smoked out before his bad shows..

I liked the Salvation btw,, his lyricism is a lot more cogent than most of the freshman class of '09...

Hah, makes sense.

I like The Salvation, too, just a lil' boring at times.

Dabas be shitting all over the new threads not started by himself...

I like both the Jon Hope and Chachi songs btw, the former reminds me of  that Dre beat on the Raekwon album with a Royceish MC doing it justice...

Checking this out.

Also plugging my own blog because I said so. Yay!

Racecar Brown. Updates every Monday.

Gonna say that Jon Hope reminds me a lot of Brother Ali with less Midwest on first impression. Beat is cool, but it takes a lot for a sped-up soul sample to do anything transcendent for me anymore. He's got skill for rhyming, particularly internal rhyming, but the chorus is a little flat. It's worth a listen, but I would want a stronger chorus on a single. "I fathered the style/I always use a condom" line made me grin. Yeah. Solid, but unspectacular is my final view.

Chachi, on the other hand, is killin' it for me. He falls into that laid-back R&B-style groove really well and where a lot of producers use scratching in a really corny way, this is anything but. He's not as strong a rhymer as Hope, but his delivery is murder. Love the samples used in the chorus, too. Again, a trick that could sound like a gimmick, but it's used pretty tastefully. This is going on my iTunes for sure.
