So my wife has been complaining about her suprauaral headphones hurting her ears after a while. (I knew they would, but she's cheap and the cans were free.) So I decided, enough of this. it's time to shell out for some real cans that will last her for a long time.
My friend has a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-770 PROs that he let her borrow for the day. I'm a big fan of this pair, as they are probably the best closed-deck pair you can get for a reasonable price (or maybe any price). Unfortunately, my wife did not like them because her ears got too warm after an extended listening period. So, in a win-win, I got the DTs for myself and she's inherited my open-deck Sennheiser HD-650s.
Best part of the story, I got the DTs at guitar center for $199 out the door, just by saying the magic words "what kind of deal can we work on these". Nice, huh?
Okay, so it's not exactly an installment of Daba Diaries, but the new cans are nice and the wife is happy. In my book, that's better than having some random girl play with my hair in a bar, then not spitting game. :) |

Nice choice! Keep extra batteries handy, or better yet buy a set or two of rechargeable ones. That's the only negative I've heard about the Beats - they eat batteries.

Yup, they are great, but the batteries sucked. Also, my cords frayed quickly, but they sent me replacement ones. I got the mini Beats too, they don't require batteries, but are very bass heavy, almost to the point of where it's annoying. They can fold in your pocket, so I like them a bit more for every day use.

I'm using the terrible iPod buds. Not awesome but at least I won't get his by a car walking around NYC since they don't cancel out any noise.

I got noise-cancelling phones once and had to retire them for just that reason. Too dangerous in NYC.

Get a nice pair of open circumaurals. Of course, you will look like a dorky Princess Leia, but you will have excellent sound quality and can still hear outside noise. /shrug

I have thus far chosen to disregard the personal risk that noise cancelling headphones has added to my life, these things are immaculate...
The highs and bass are both unreal. |

Congrats on the good decision! That's a very satisfying feeling. Did you get the big pair or the ear buds?

the over ear version, I think its called the studio... I used to have a canal style pair by sennheiser, which I will keep for snowboarding etc.. I just find the sound and comfort is way better with these for daily use..

Yeah, I definitely like circumaurals (though I think those are supra-aurals) for comfort. I'm looking for a good pair of buds, though. |
