Not exactly breaking, but it is Rolling Stone...

...

Sounds Like: With 10 songs clocking in under 25 minutes, their debut album is a flash flood of surf punk, girl group croon and heavy reverb. Inspirations like the Wipers, Nirvana and the Shangri-La's are evident on songs like the poppy but abrasive "Going Insane" and super-catchy "Where Do You Run To." "When we started out, we just wanted to be a really, really fast band with really short songs," guitarist-singer Cassie Ramone jokes. "That was our original game plan. Now we're trying to write songs that are longer than two minutes. We're aiming for two-and-a-half minute songs."

That's a 30 Rock quote in my status, in fairness. But I prefer listening to "In The Air Tonight" more than I will enjoy listening to any Vivian Girls song.

it's still early in the morning, so excuse me if i'm wrong/lazy, but I think I read about them in New York magazine on the train in their special double issue about what's hot/new and crap this year

They're boring/unoriginal.  I was going to say "I don't care," but if that were true I wouldn't have posted anything.   So I guess I "care," in the sense that it bothers me that other people care so much about a boring/unoriginal group of obnoxious poseurs.

They drone and the drone and they drone and they drone, and they're completely tuneless.  They spend more time shouting for whiskey on stage than they do playing "songs."  And I think that quote above about them "writing songs" is the funniest thing.  What songs?  Wait, what?  Those are songs they write?
