Off the top of my head, Atmosphere's 'When life gives you lemons...' album was pretty bluesy, and had some of the best down and our lyrics I've heard this year.
What do you mean by depressing though..? Depressing beats or depressing lyrics? |

i mean both, like an artist that really identifies with being depressing. if you listen to red house painters the music and lyrics are depressing. bands like that are thematically depressing and are known for it. dave mentioned atmosphere to me earlier, but they arent consistently down are they? |

No I wouldn't say they are.
I dunno I cant really think of a hip hop group or mc that is constantly or thematically depressing. Hip hop is usually made for the live show, and if MC's dont put out some crowd movers with heavy beats, or hooks people can grab on too, they risk putting the crowds to sleep.
That said some of my favourite Artists' best tracks have pretty depressing content. EL-P usually puts out at least one depressingly emotional spewer per album... T.OJ. off FantasticDamage and The Overly Dramatic Truth off Ill sleep when your dead.

my only suggestion to ACB was Atmosphere.
There are hip hop artists that make depressing songs but I can't think of any hip hop artist that makes almost all of his songs depressing. |

Joe Budden, specifically his Mood Muzik series. The guy's got a knack for telling you everything he's ever gone through, and most of it's depressing as hell. Some people call it emo-rap because it 's so emotional. And he's one of the best rapper's alive. Do a Google search.

Sage Francis has some depressing songs, but not really consistantly so.
I'm not to trying to promote a friend but maybe check out this guy I know from the Bronx named Fascious. He's more of a slam poet than an MC though. I went to school and worked at the radio station with him. He's incredibly talented and his lyrics are intensely intraspective and sometimes depressing.

Some El-P stuff could be considered depressing (Stepfather Factor?).

well, nobody's gonna say it? Brotha Lynch Hung is the most depressing rapper I've heard. Listen to disc two of Lynch by Inch. |
