15. Stereolab, "Chemical Chords"
Seemingly eons removed from the triumph of agreed-upon pinnacle "Emperor Tomato Ketchup," the venerable Stereolab manages to loosen up a bit and make a succinct pop record.

7. Okkervil River, "The Stand-Ins"
Picking up where the mysteriously inactive Decemberists have left off for the moment, Okkervil River offers a tight set of wordy, tuneful torch songs for the theater-major crowd. A companion to last year's "The Stage Names," the new record is a relatively bare-bones effort for increasingly popular indie-folkers.

I think this list lost all credibility when it put that turd of a Kings of Leon record on there.

I'm really digging the Walkmen album, glad it got some recognition on the list.

How sad is it when the third quarter of 2008 has more value in music than the entirety of the stock market?
