Here's another "first" topic: what was the first album you bought for yourself?

Mine was three CD's at once. I got my first CD boombox in 1998 (when I was 12), as a hand-me down from my parents when they actually got a CD stereo (they are late adopters), and they had one of those Columbia House subscriptions where you get a lot of CD's for cheap. My parents needed to buy three more discs (I think for a total of $25), and since I had been saving allowance, I was allowed to pick three and pay my parents.

The three I chose? Sublime's self-titled album (mostly because I had heard "What I Got" during one of my covert MTV watching operations. (My parents barred me and my sister from watching MTV when they were around, but since it was a time before parental controls, we watched when they weren't around.)), the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (because disco was so hilarious at age 12) and Radiohead's OK Computer (again, I saw Karma Police and Paranoid Android on MTV and something about the band was alluring to my 12 year old self).

What's everyone else's first album?

for myself...it was Electronic. Hell of an album.  But the official answer is PM Dawn's single for "set adrift on memory bliss" that I basically made my friend buy me for my birthday.

 I win.

Rocky III (OST) - Vynil

I 'm not sure. I think it's NWA - "Straight Outta Compton" or some metal record.

CD - Nirvana "Nevermind" and Tone Loc "Cool Hand Loc"

My first RECORD was supposed to be Michael Jackson's "Thriller" but they were sold out at the record store and my pocket money was burning a hole in my pocket so I settled for the soundtrack to "Flashdance" (I still have it, and I still like it!).

My first tape was Erasure's "The Innocents"...I was a die hard vinyl junkie, but I was sick and tired of taping all my records to listen on my Walkman and I really wanted this album immediately.

My first CD was Dr Dre's "The Chronic" in college.

First tape I bought was Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" (actually I was only like 10 so my sister bought it for me after I gave her the money) and the first CD I bought was Beck "Mellow Gold." Never having played a CD before, I didn't believe the technology would work.
