What was your first concert?
Mine was Guns N Roses and Aerosmith at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Middletown, NY in 1988? Whoa, 20 years ago this month! I was 10 haha. My dad took my twin brother and I to the concert. It was great because Appetite just came out year before and they were my favorite band at the time. |

Funny story.
Mine was Sugar Ray and Simple Plan in Oshkosh, WI, in 2000 or 2001 I think. I had no interest what so ever in going, but I got dragged along by friend and his girlfriend. Simple Plan was my friend's girlfriend's favorite band, and my friend bought her a ticket, in hopes of, um, closing the deal. I was brought along so my friend could use me as a cover with his mom (she would have never okayed him going to a concert with just her, as I think we were 14, and he even bought my ticket after I said something along the lines of "no fucking way"), and his girlfriend countered by bringing one of her friends. I was left to socialize with her, and she was a total bitch (acted like I was the scum of the earth when I was trying to make conversation to make the best of the situation). I asked to leave one song into Simple Plan's set, and started to go, only to be roped back in by my friend when his girlfriend said her friend needed someone to talk to. I left with my friend in tow half-way through Sugar Ray after his girlfriend's friend "felt sick" (I conjecture she wanted to get away from me) and left with her a few songs earlier. I don't think my friend even got lucky. I'll have to ask him.
But yeah, it's a pretty embarrassing concert to have to claim as your first. |

No one has ever beaten my cool factor. Hahaha. Some have come close, but no one is likely to top this...
Johnny Cash. At a rodeo in New Mexico. I was 9 years old, and I WANTED to be there, i.e. this was not a case of a parent taking me along for the ride, this was a case of me saying I wanted to go.
Second concert: Live Aid, Wembley Stadium
Yeah, I know, I'm bad ass. |

I think it was white zombie (sometime in the 90's?). Actually that concert was pretty dope w/ all the props!

Oh nice Gabi! I wasn't a fan of Johnny Cash back then but man I wish I saw him live before he passed.
I thought my GNR concert couldn't be beat haha. my second concert was Ozzy for his No Rest For a Wicked tour in 89. With Vixen and White Lion lol. |

this thread is pretty awesome.
Sugar Ray? White Lion? Reel Big Fish?
Mine was Hole @ Toad's Place (October 8, 1994)
Looks like I can even by a backstage pass from the show for $46 http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/dt/hole-backstage-pass/TDP941008-BP.html |

I don't know Daba, I wouldn't be too proud of Hole either. Although at least you can say you never had to go see Sugar Ray.
I think first concerts are patently embarrasing (unless you're gabi), as you're music taste from age 10-16 is usually suspect. |

I think I'm going to win for the lamest, haha. As I recall, my first concert ever was UB40. My older sister took me. I was about 7.
I hadn't thought about that horrible day in years. Thank you. |

@margarita - you think UB40 is worse than SUGAR RAY? Hahahaha.
@Andrew - yours may go down as the best answer. You almost want your first concert experience to be patently uncool. It's hard living up to the cool standards. When I tell people my THIRD concert was a-Ha at the Hammersmith Odeon, I lose all credibility. Hahaha. |

Yeah, it's probably easier than if, say, I saw an early Interpol show as my first concert or something. But I lose all credibility when telling people I don't know I write about music, and their questioning comes around to concerts, and I have to explain that one. I've gotten good at explaining the story, so I can at least make people laugh, but most of the time I get wary glances.
